Description
KUDU is an overdrive that has a funny little story behind it. Dan Coggins, who you’ll know of Lovetone fame, designs pedals for ThorpyFx, but musical instruments and their associated gear remains to this day as a hobby for Thorpy. Well, knowing this, on Christmas 2024 Dan gifted me a modified pedal, which as always, sparks an idea for a new product. So, we took inspiration for this modified classic and created a pedal optimised for stacking with other pedals and amps. Why is it called KUDU? Well, there is a variant of the KUDU called the Greater Kudu and as the pedal makes everything sound better... it seemed apt.
CONTROL:
FOOTSWITCH: ON/OFF True bypass
LEVEL: Use this control to balance the output of the pedal. We’ve packed in plenty of volume to this pedal so you can cut and boost your signal using the level.
BITE: This control allows you to feed in the correct amount of sizzle and sparkle to your tone. It allows you to tailor the frequencies that interact with your other pedals and amps. Lower settings are smoother, whilst higher settings are more cutting.
DRIVE: This control adds or cuts the level of drive on tap. This control is very interactive with the bite control.
CLIP: Use this to change between Soft, Hard and Extra Soft clipping, allowing to change the character of your KUDU and the way the harmonics meld with other drive stages.
PLACEMENT: KUDU is designed and optimised for stacking, and this is a very personal thing. Our advice is to just have a play with placement and see where it fits your signal chain best. It’s not particularly fussy on placement but it will yield its best results when placed where you want it to be.
POWER: The KUDU is designed to be powered by a 9V DC centre-negative 2.1mm power supply. Do not attempt to use this pedal with other voltages or polarities. We have power protection circuitry in our pedals and use of any other voltages will shut the pedal down and may require return to ThorpyFx HQ for repair. This will not be covered under warranty.

COMPONENTS: To ensure consistency, reliability, low noise and tonal supremacy the KUDU is made with extremely high quality components. 1% metalfilm resistors, WIMA and Panasonic capacitors where possible and robust through hole plated PCB’S. In short, all of this means you won’t have to worry about your pedal, and it should give you many years of inspiring tonal bliss.
