Martin HD-16R LSH (USED)
Description
2009
Player's condition. Some minor wear and tear but plays and sounds beautifully. Minor fret wear on G and B strings
The large sound hole legacy has its origins in the legendary D-28 owned by Clarence White and subsequently by virtuoso Tony Rice. A dreadnought with enlarged sound hole allows the sound to spread in a wider arc. Both the listener, and the player, get to hear more of the guitar.
This fine instrument offers you the ability to unveil delicate fingerpicking technique, or: to roar like the best of the bluegrass cannons. It produces a very sweet sound, capable of expressing your most subtle musical creativity, yet it can also bellow and cut through the most raucous of jam sessions. When needed, it is a veritable banjo-killer. This guitar truly sings due to the beautiful sitka spruce soundboard with scalloped hybrid-X braces which allows the top to move more freely, thus providing more headroom and greater expressiveness.
According to Martin Guitar designer Dick Boak: “Everything below the soundhole is the standard Martin scalloped X bracing and everything above the soundhole is the cantilevered A-frame 1-Series bracing. It really strengthens the stability around the soundhole without adding more wood.”
The gorgeous East Indian back and sides are perfectly complemented by the elegant fine herringbone rosette and fine herringbone inlay. The back purfling is top of the line style 45. The straight, tight grain of the sitka top has silking that gives a rich three dimensional effect, and the luxurious East Indian back and sides are stunning. The bridge and fingerboard are fantastic looking tonewood: striped ebony.
This beauty from 2009 has had the time any guitar needs to ‘open up’ and has been carefully played in my smoke free home studio. Ready to be loved by its next caretaker, it will come to you well-protected in its hardshell Martin case.
