Taylor GS Mini Mahogany Acoustic Guitar with Gig Bag
Description
Taylor's GS Mini series set a new standard for what a small-body guitar can deliver, and the GS Mini Mahogany is one of the most compelling models in the lineup. The scaled-down Grand Symphony body measures 14-3/8" wide and 17-5/8" long — compact enough to toss in an overhead bin or keep within arm's reach on the couch — but the solid neo-tropical mahogany top and GS Mini bracing pattern with relief rout push more volume and low-end than any parlor guitar in the same price range. At $599, this is a purpose-built acoustic with no electronics to pay for: every dollar goes into the wood, the bracing, and the build.
Mahogany top — warm midrange that opens up over time
Spruce tops start bright and mellow with age. Mahogany does the opposite — it begins warm and focused, then gains complexity and overtone richness as the top vibrates in over months of playing. The GS Mini Mahogany's solid neo-tropical mahogany top delivers a dry, woody attack with strong fundamentals in the midrange, which makes it a natural fit for fingerstyle, singer-songwriter strumming, and recording situations where you want a guitar that sits in a mix without fighting the vocal. Layered sapele back and sides reinforce that punchy, directional tone while adding travel-ready durability — sapele shares mahogany's tonal family but handles humidity swings and bumps better than a solid-wood back would.
Full-size playability in a 7/8 body
The GS Mini isn't a travel compromise — it's a real instrument with a 23-1/2" scale length, 20 frets, and a 1-11/16" nut width on a Taylor standard carve neck profile. The shorter scale reduces string tension compared to a 25-1/2" full-size guitar, which means easier fretting and more expressive bends without sacrificing projection. D'Addario XS coated phosphor bronze medium strings (.013-.056) come installed from the factory — heavier than most small-body guitars ship with, because the GS Mini's bracing can handle the extra tension and translate it into genuine volume. The West African Crelicam ebony fretboard and bridge add clear note definition and snappy articulation that keeps chords from getting muddy at this scale length.
